How to Install a Robustline Smart Lock 1010B: Step-by-Step Installation Guide

Step-by-step Robustline Smart Lock 1010B installation guide: box contents, handing adjustment, mortise fitting, wiring, batteries and first test.

To install a Robustline Smart Lock 1010B, you (1) set the handle direction on the front and back panels to match your door, (2) fit the 45/85 mortise into the slot cut from the template, (3) mount the front panel and pass its cable through the door, (4) insert the 70L spindle, connect the cable to the back panel's circuit board and fix both panels together with the M5×60 and M5×40 screws, (5) load four AA alkaline batteries, and (6) test with the default password 123456 and the mechanical key. A standard timber or metal door takes about 30–45 minutes with an Allen key, a Phillips screwdriver and a drill. The lock and all fittings are available from Safinat Group, your hardware shop in Al Qusais, Al Quoz and Deira.

What is in the Robustline Smart Lock 1010B box

Before you drill anything, lay the parts out and check them against this list. The 1010B ships with everything needed for a single door; no extra fittings are required.

Not in the box, bring your own: four AA alkaline batteries, an Allen key (hex key), a Phillips screwdriver and a drill with wood or metal bits. The drilling template is supplied with the lock; keep it flat until you need it.

Tools and door check

  • Door thickness: the 1010B is designed for standard interior and entrance doors. Measure yours before you start so the through-bolts and spindle reach.
  • Door material: timber, MDF, composite and steel-skinned doors are all suitable. Hollow doors need a solid block where the mortise sits.
  • Handing: the lock is reversible. Decide whether your door opens to the left or right as you face it from outside; you will set this in Step 1.
  • Frame: the strike plate and strike box need a frame deep enough to recess the bolt. Check for a metal frame insert before drilling.

Step 1: Adjust the handle direction (right-to-left)

Out of the box the handles are set for a right-hand door. If your door is left-hand, change both panels before fitting. The procedure is the same on the front and the back.

Front panel (a)

  1. Use the Allen key to remove the screw at the right-hand position on the back of the panel.
  2. Turn the handle 180 degrees counter-clockwise.
  3. Refit the screw in the left-hand position and tighten.

Back panel (b)

  1. Use the Allen key to remove the screw at the right-hand position.
  2. Turn the handle 180 degrees counter-clockwise.
  3. Refit the screw in the left-hand position and tighten.

Check that both handles now point the same way and return to level when released. If one sits lower than the other, the screw is not fully seated.

Step 2: Mark and cut the door with the template

Tape the supplied template to the door edge at the height you want the handle (around 1,000 mm from the floor is common). Mark:

  • the mortise pocket on the door edge,
  • the spindle hole, cylinder hole and the two through-bolt holes on both faces,
  • the cable hole above the spindle.

Cut the mortise pocket first, then drill the face holes from both sides to stop break-out. Clear all dust from the pocket before the next step.

Step 3: Assemble the mortise

Slide the mortise (c) into the slot cut to the 45/85 template. The face plate should sit flush with the door edge; if it stands proud, deepen the pocket rather than forcing it. Fix the face plate with two of the ST4×20 screws (i). Check that the latch and dead bolt move freely by hand.

Step 4: Fix the front panel and pass the cable

Hold the front panel (a) against the outside face of the door, align it with the spindle and cylinder holes, and feed the flat ribbon cable through the cable hole to the inside. Do not fold or crease the cable; it carries power and data between the two panels. Rest the panel in position; it will be clamped by the through-bolts in Step 6.

Step 5: Insert the spindle and connect the cable

  1. Push the 70L spindle (h) through the mortise follower so it projects on both sides.
  2. On the inside, locate the connector on the back panel's circuit board (PCB, printed circuit board).
  3. Plug the ribbon cable in until it clicks. The connector is keyed and only fits one way, so never force it.

Step 6: Fix the back panel to the front panel

Offer the back panel (b) onto the inside face, letting the spindle enter the inside handle. Pass the M5×40 screw (g) through the upper hole and the M5×60 screw (f) through the lower hole, into the threaded posts on the front panel. Tighten alternately until both panels sit flat. Over-tightening on a timber door can bow the panels and make the handle stiff, so stop when the panels are snug.

Step 7: Fit the batteries

Slide off the battery cover on the back panel, insert four AA alkaline batteries with the polarity shown in the compartment, and refit the cover. The lock will power up and give a tone. Use alkaline cells; rechargeable cells have a lower voltage and will trigger the low-battery warning early.

Step 8: Test the lock

  1. Fit the strike plate (d) and strike box (e) on the frame with the remaining ST4×20 screws, lining up with the latch and bolt.
  2. Turn the mechanical key (k) in the cylinder (j) to confirm the manual override works.
  3. Enter the default password 123456 on the keypad and press the handle. The door should open smoothly.
  4. If the handle is stiff or the bolt catches, loosen the through-bolts slightly or adjust the strike plate position and re-test.

Once the mechanical test passes, change the default password and enrol an administrator fingerprint before adding users. Register cards (RFID, radio-frequency identification; Emirates ID; NOL; or a bank card) and set temporary passcodes from the admin menu. The reset button and privacy button are inside the back panel, out of reach from outside.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to install a Robustline Smart Lock 1010B?

A door that already has a mortise cut to the 45/85 pattern can be done in about 30 minutes. A new door that needs the pocket and holes cut takes 45 to 60 minutes.

Do I need an electrician to install the 1010B?

No. The lock runs on four AA batteries and has no mains wiring. The only connection is the ribbon cable between the two panels, which plugs in by hand.

Can the 1010B be fitted to a left-hand door?

Yes. Both handles reverse by removing one Allen screw, turning the handle 180 degrees counter-clockwise and refitting the screw on the opposite side, as shown in Step 1.

What is the default password on the Robustline Smart Lock 1010B?

The factory test password is 123456. Change it as soon as the mechanical test passes.

What happens when the batteries run out?

The lock warns you in advance when the batteries are low. If they do run flat, the mechanical key in the cylinder opens the door, so keep one spare key off-site.

What size mortise does the 1010B use?

A 45/85 mortise: 45 mm backset and 85 mm centre distance between the spindle and the cylinder. If you are replacing an existing lock with the same pattern, the old pocket can usually be reused.

Where can I get help if I get stuck during installation?

Bring the lock or a photo of your door to our hardware shop in Al Qusais, Al Quoz or Deira and the counter team will walk you through the fit. For project installs we can recommend local fitters.
